When work and play intersect
Hindsight is 20/20. Of the many things that I would tell my younger self, one would be not to date coworkers and keep your personal life separate. This is not unlike advice I had received from others, but my stubborn streak told me I would be different. I was going to be able to separate the two without an issue. On top of this, I am the boss so that goes with it's own risks.
The last time I dated a coworker, I ended up marrying her. This is where we begin.
"Mary" was a little younger than I was (8 years), a little taller and a breath of fresh air to me. She had a beautiful smile and an awkward way about her, which I found endearing. She was smart, funny and had no idea how beautiful she was.
We started dating and it became serious pretty quickly. I fell for her pretty hard and she did me. It made work a little more interesting because at first no one knew. In retrospect, it would have been better if it stayed that way. Little by little, that changed because I was so use to sharing my personal life with the confines of work. Eventually, it was common knowledge. She was moved into a department that I was less present for optics.
Within a few months, she moved into my apartment and we were madly in love.
Those little things that you find so endearing when you're dating, changes a bit when you move in together. I am by no means perfect. She was a messy person, while I was not. This caused some tense discussions in the beginning.
She was close with her family and I became comfortable with them pretty quickly. They were down to earth people who would do anything for you.
It was not long before we felt the next logical step was marriage. She was my world and eventually she found another job which was better for both of us.
We were married in September of 2010, our honeymoon was in Boston which started my love of that city.
